Humidity

Commercial1

I am thrilled to be my friend’s Matron of Honor! Her big day will happen at the end of May on the beach in Naples, Florida. A beautiful destination wedding aka tropical / sunny VACATION! I can’t wait for all the festivities and I am so excited for her.

BUT there is one problem and before I even say it, I know you curly hair peeps can relate…. the dreaded HUMIDITY 😦 There is nothing and I mean NOTHING that can control my mop of curls in humidity – I have tried it all….

So when my friend requested her bridesmaids wear our hair like Victoria’s Secret model beach waves, I nearly choked with laughter. Does she not know me? I was planning on my go-to. Putting my hair in a tight, hair sprayed / product smeared, top of my head bun. Like I do anytime I travel to the beach. No bangs, no lose pieces. I told her, NO WAY! But she insisted that her hair stylist will be able to make the “beach waves” work in my hair. “Um, no she won’t,” I said. I don’t care what kind of magic formula she puts in my hair, I will end up looking like the clown from Steven King’s IT – my mood will probably mimic him too.

I know it isn’t my day and that it shouldn’t matter, as long as the bride is happy. So, I will do what she asks but in the end shes going to be sorry when my frizz head is taking up the entire photo.

Does anyone have any suggestions of must have, tried and tested humidity busters? Please help.

  1. Use the same hairspray that Sandra Bullock used in Gravity. Although fire extinguishers, wrenches, chairs and tears were floating every which way…her hair was locked in place like it was chisled from granite.

  2. Well you’ve got the most important thing covered; which is supporting the bride’s vision for her special day. Now, go find yourself a “curl whisperer”; a stylist that knows the language of curls and can read yours to give you the best possible haircut. No product, at any price, can replace an excellent haircut. Invest your time and money in that.

As far as products, you’ll need to experiment, but here are my fav styling and/or finishing products that are in my summer survival kit: Eco styler gel, John Frieda Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Crème, Aveda Anti-Humectant Pomade, Suave Max Hold Unscented Non-Aerosol Hairspray.

    Enjoy the wedding.

    • It is rare for me to cut my hair. It is very thin and grows so slowly so I am always so hesitant. I have heard about the importance of trimming split ends to keep hair healthy and growing. It is hard to find a stylist that knows about and cuts curly hair. My sister tried a Ouidad stylist and said it made all the difference in the world! I will have to start my search. Thanks for the suggested products! I will give them a try.

  3. A certified Ouidad specialist is the way to go…I also love the Ouidad products. Have you tried the “rake and shake” method of styling? Head to the Ouidad website…they give you a tutorial on how to style your hair and what products to use. It has made all the difference for me! However, when facing Florida humidity…on the beach no less…I’m sorry to say there’s little hope. But there is a silver lining…if anyone can pull off the “IT” look…it’s you. ROCK it and OWN it! You’ll look fabulous…no doubt the bride will be jealous;)

    • Haha – Thanks for the feedback. I have tried the “rake and shake” method of styling by @Ouidad but I can’t seem to get it down. Perhaps I should take a lesson or two. I know they have some training videos on YouTube.
