Breaking the Cycle

My 2.5 year old daughter, Declan, has the most BEAUTIFUL hair and guess what? She’s got curls. Her soft spirals are what dreams are made of! She reminds me of Shirley Temple. But how can I teach Declan to love her curls when I spent most of my life hating mine? I am surrounded by women that hate their curly hair.  If theirs is so bad then mine must be bad too!  To a certain extent, the feeling was learned at a young age. But that is exactly what I want to steer Declan away from. I want her to be proud and confident. It all starts with me and after having Declan I changed my approach. I work to value and embrace who I am and most importantly, I tell my daughter how smart, talented, strong, pretty… she is. Curls and all.
